Myopia (Near-Sighted) Control and Management

One of main goals here at Prime Eye Care Optometry, is to properly diagnose, treat, and manage the ever growing problem of increased Near-Sightedness or Myopia in children. Dr. Lee achieves this by properly educating parents concerning their children's near-sighted condition and ways to proper manage and control it's progression. Dr. Lee achieves this by offering three (3) myopia control options.

1. Orthokeratology (also referred to as Ortho-K, Overnight Vision Correction, and Corneal Refractive Therapy), is the use of rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, normally worn only at night, to improve vision throughout the day by reshaping of the cornea. This method can be used as an alternative to eyeglasses, refractive surgery, or for those who prefer not to wear contact lenses during the day. Studies have also shown that use of ortho-k lenses help slow down the progression of near-sightedness with some individuals experiencing minimal to no further myopia progression throughout their entire treatment period. ​

2. MiSight Myopia Management is a new comprehensive myopia management approach.  MiSight daily disposable soft contact lenses is single use contact lens that has been clinically proven and FDA-approved to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) when initially prescribed for children 8-12 years old. 

3. Atropine Myopia Management is another option we offer in near-sighted progression control. Atropine is an eyedrop that is formulated to be used only at bedtime right before an individual goes to sleep. This is usually the most simple way to help combat near-sighted progression in younger kids who are not ready for Ortho-K or MiSight contact lenses.

4.  Digital Glasses: For those children who are either too young or are unable to properly handle and adapt to wearing contact lenses or are not ready for atropine eyedrops, we offer myopia management through the use of properly prescribed and fitted glasses with digital (no-line) lenses. With this treatment option, Blue-Light protection Anti-Reflective Coating is also added to further protect a child's eyes during digital device usage.
